    Solitude Village Condominium: O - 304
Our clients had already rented this on-slope condo for several years when they decided to purchase the unit.  Being familiar with the functionality, they knew that significant upgrades needed to be completed.  During the spring of 2006 we began the conceptual design process. Taking the time to understand exactly how our clients wanted to use the space was critical to the ultimate success of this project. When Solitude was built the original design closed off the small galley kitchen from the living and dining spaces. The cabinet space was extremely limited and the functional cooking area was barely large enough to prepare and serve a meal.  Working with our Architects and Engineer we determined what was structural and therefore needed to stay. By being able to remove a five foot section of the wall that separated the kitchen, we were able to dramatically expand the kitchen, change the whole layout, add an island and add cabinets. By simply re-routing some plumbing and electrical runs we were left with a post rather than a wall. This move toward a more open space floor plan was carried into the living room where we able to do a beautiful and functional built-in window seat that has drawers that are handy for kids toys and arts and crafts supplies. If you are familiar with Solitude units the master bathroom included a giant bathtub that is generally so cold no one ever uses them. A wrecking bar and a dumpster solved that problem.  We discovered that the insulation was insufficient and the structure was not weather tight. The client was looking to expand the shower and make it large enough for two and function as a steam shower with benches.  Adding large pantry cabinets and a double vanity console finished this spa style Master bath suite.  Additionally, the family was tired of pulling out splinters from their feet in the old mudroom.  We solved that problem with beautiful colored slate and made the room more functional with custom built-in cubbies for each family member and then wood storage and more storage for ancillary ski equipment.  We also added radiant heat throughout the first floor and installed wide maple flooring in the living, dining room and kitchen.  This unit should be featured in a magazine!

    West Hill Road Residence
Many second homes in the area built during the 1980’s were on a very limited budget; this project was aimed at solving many of the problems that were created in the original build-out. The current owners have been coming to Vermont for generations; the family is growing and the home desperately needed major work. This project was unusual for us because we were brought into the process very late. Most of the kitchen and bath design work was done, cabinets ordered and many of the fixtures were on-site. Like many homeowners, this family was promised the world by a local carpenter who never delivered. Lot’s of excuses and no action. At CZ Construction Management we pride ourselves on delivering an exceptional finished project; on-time and on-budget. No excuses just execution and satisfaction. The project consisted of: a new kitchen, two new bathrooms, hardwood flooring, painting and heating upgrades.

    Solitude Village Condominium: B1
Although our clients were very excited about living directly on the mountain slopes, they were less enthusiastic about the quality of the interior finishes of their new home. When the Solitude Village complex was built, the emphasis was on speed and cost containment. As values haves increased significantly, our clients wanted the finishes to be upgraded to reflect their needs and lifestyle. Consequently, our clients asked us to completely clear out the dated and generic elements and design an entirely new look for the home that incorporates earthy elements that are indigenous to Vermont. We have redesigned the kitchen to be more welcoming for entertaining and functional with children; as well as built-ins for the dining area that provide storage, benches, wine cooler and even a spot for the prerequisite fax machine! We have completely redesigned the master bath, removing the jetted tub and minuscule corner shower, replacing it with a walk-in shower with multiple water systems. We’ll create a fresh, clean look that brings the streams inside with Carerra pebble floor tiles. We’ve updated all bathroom lighting from fluorescents to recessed and sconces, as well as adding additional lighting for more function and design ascetics. Audio systems, upgraded surfaces and textured paint will complete this condo and bring it into the 21st century.

    Birch Landing- Units #22, #23 & # 24
In this project our client was a builder/ developer who needed a construction management team to complete an ongoing project. CZ was hired to straighten out a project that was a year behind schedule, over budget and lacking on site management.  Additionally, we were asked to manage the buyer’s involvement and work individually with each buyer to customize their respective units with unique finish packages.
